It's best to view these from the bottom of the post up. This photo was taken on the way down.
Outside the cafe.
After the cold weather at the summit, we stopped on the way down at a small cafe for a warm lunch. It was very rustic. I think it was about 80 years old.
Joseph and Calvin.
Bristlecone Pine. Theses are hundreds of years old.
On the way down. The road curves around the mountain. What looks like water in the distance are actually smaller mountains, maybe about 11,000 feet. (The horizontal line is a crack in the windshield.)
They are amazing climbers.
Roughly 250 feet below the summit, the road ended. We were at 14,000 feet! And this Mountain Goat met us.
The road became very narrow. The speed limit was ten mph!
No trees beyond this point!
Just leaving the sub alpine region.
On the road again.
We stopped here for a little while, to adjust to the altitude.
Echo Lake. We started off in Denver at 7.00am, at 5500 feet. By the time we reached Echo Lake, we were at 10,500 feet. It was a cloudless day till about noon, when a few started popping up.
